Park Nelspruit has a sub-tropical climate and abundant sunshine
and lush covered hills and valleys. A perfect base to explore
Mpumalanga. Nelspruit is the centre of the fruit growing area
of Mpumalanga, with perfect conditions for the production
of citrus and tropical fruits, mainly mango, banana, avocado,
macadamia and pecan nuts. The lowveld botanical gardens just
outside of the town boasts a rare collection of plant species
and the first man-made rain forests.

Quirky White River lies just north of Nelspruit
close to the border of Kruger Park. A laid back small town
set in an area of stunning scenic beauty, the climate is said
to be one of the best in South Africa, lovely hot days in
summer when rainfall is at its highest and cool nights during
the winter. The town also has a reputation for arts &
crafts. Also known as Witrivier (Afrikaans), the town is probably
better known under the Afrikaans name than the English "White
River".

Malelane

Malelane lies on the banks of the Crocodile
River South of the Kruger Park. The town provides easy access
to the park at the nearby Malelane Gate and there are a number
of lodges in the area. The town is also en-route to Komatipoort
and Mozambique, providing a good opportunity for a stop-over
combined with a visit to the Kruger Park. The town is mostly
centred around the sugarcane and sub-tropical fruit industry.

Komatipoort

Komatipoort is a quaint town where the Komati
and Crocodile Rivers meet before they flow into Mozambique,
a popular base for tourists wanting to explore the Park being
only 8km from Crocodile Bridge Gate and 50km from the Malalane
entrance to the Kruger National Park. Bird and Nature lovers
will love this area and its rich diversity of flora and fauna.
Golf enthusiasts can enjoy a nine-hole golf course that also
has wonderful views of the adjacent Kruger National Park.

Hazyview

Hazyview is a favourite overnight stop for
visitors to Kruger National Park. The closest gates are the
Paul Kruger Gate and the newer Phabeni Gate. Hazyview derives
it’s name from the summer haze that envelopes the low
bush.The area is said to have the world’s best climate
for bananas you will see a whole host of tropical banana plantations.
The town itself offers a variety of restaurants, cultural
entertainment and malls and offers a lot of activities for
tourists.

Graskop
65km - 80 minutes from Paul Kruger Gate |
Graskop originated in the heydays of the
gold rush in the 1880’s although today forestry is the
major industries with neat rows of pine trees fanning out
on either side of the meandering roads. Graskop lies in the
heart of the Panorama route
where the Drakensberg escarpment descends into the lowveld,
the landscape is lush and green and outdoor enthusiasts will
find plenty of opportunities for hiking, walking and adventuring.
Not to mention the nearby Blyde River Canyon that provides
spectacular scenery with its deep green chasms, gorges and
soaring cliffs. Graskop is a good stop off en-route to the
nearby Kruger National Park.

Sabie

Another town that grew rapidly upon the
discovery of gold in the area, Sabie is situated on the banks
of the Sabie River and today is mostly centred around the
timber industry, the plantations surrounding Sabie are said
to be amongst the biggest man-made forests in the world. Sabie
River is a popular fly fishing area.
Also in the vicinity are a number of waterfalls including
Horseshoe, Lone Creek, Bridal Veil and the twin Mac-Mac falls
en-route to Graskop and the Blyde River Canyon.

Pilgrims Rest

Founded in the early days of the gold rush
was Pilgrim’s Rest and in 1873 the town was officially
declared a gold field. The quaint town has successfully maintained
the charm of yesteryear and captured the essence of the gold
heydays. For this reason, the entire town has been declared
a National Monument and visitors will feel as though they
have stepped back in time. It’s well worth a stop and
the village is home to many fine old buildings and churches,
arts and crafts and other items of interest. There are two
nature reserves in the surrounding area and the town is en-route
to Graskop and the spectacular Blyde River Canyon area.
