Visit Botswana and Namibia and Victoria Falls

A short but pleasant trip through Namibia beside the river

I spent one night at a river lodge along the Caprivi where I had the whole campsite to myself, I put my tent up facing the river and listened to the sounds of Hippos grunting and jackals howling, while gazing up at a star studded sky looking for shooting stars.

Next morning I continued along the tar road stopping to admire kudu, giraffe, zebra, impala and to let the elephants cross the road, which they seemed to do a lot along that route!

At Katima Mulilo I turned right and to the border back into Botswana bidding Namibia a farewell with the promise that I would be back and spend longer next time.

Welcome back to Botswana at Kasane / Kazungula

The border crossing is at Kazungula but the closest town of any consequence is Kasane (35km) and there are lots of places to stay all along the river and in Kasane town.
This is a remarkable area where Zambia, Zimbabwe, Namibia all meet in one small corner with rivers running between the countries, it makes for beautiful scenery and opens up some great opportunities, Chobe park was just a few kilometeres away in Botswana, I had already had a taste of Namibia and Victoria Falls one of Africas greatest spectacles was a mere 70km away....

It was just too close NOT to go and visit this amazing sight.

Breaching a 120 metre deep canyon between 2 countries the mighty Zambezi River plunges over the edge at Victoria Falls.

It really is an impressive view, you can see it from the Zimababwe or Zambia side, in the dry season there is less water but you can see more of the falls, in the wet season you will be soaked to the skin and amazed by the sheer volume and power of the water that crashes over the top and down into the canyons below.
While you are there you can go white water rafting, bungee jumping or take a pleasure flight and much much more.

Instead of driving my car across which is possible - but means lots more paperwork, queueing and driving,
I decided to join a day trip organised by the lodge, it was US$50 for all transport, drinks and guide, extra was any visa required for Zimababwe from US$20 to US$50 depending on passport and entrance fee to Vic Falls.
