Welcome
to the online home of the Pleuchie's Howff. They are an eclectic mix of
a pub, a restaurant and a guest house in Dumfries, run by an equally eclectic
family.
For those of you not familiar with the "Doric" a Pleuch is
a plough and a Pleuchie a ploughman. A Pleuchie could also mean an ordinary
working person from the country.
"Howff" is a meeting or gathering place. Robert Burns, who
lived, worked, and is laid to rest in Dumfries, is one of Scotland's most
famous ploughmen.
