Driving the Sunshine RouteFrom the wildlife of South Africa to the beaches of MozambiqueIt seemed longer than 6 hours since we collected our rental car at Joburg airport as we gazed out over the fantastic view of Gods Window down the Blyde River Canyon. From the rush of the city it had been a pleasant drive int the northern wilderness of South africa, our first stop was the small village of Graskop right beside the Drakensburg Moauntains and the clear fresh air was beautiful. After a night at the local guesthouse we drve up the canyon stopping to admire the waterfalls thatdot the river Sabies course before rolling down the mountains edge and into the Greater KrugerWildlife Park. We had chosen to splash out a little to stay at a private lodge
that offered openvehicle game drives with an experienced ranger
and tracker -and it was worth every penny, apart from being able
to go off road our excellent tracker spotted everything from the
big five, birdsplants and even insects, explaining about each one
and answering all our questions. The food was also excellent and
After three nights of being totally spoilt and with our new found knowledge of animals and birds we set off across the Kruger park for a day drive to the border with Mozambique only 15 minutes from the Crocodile Bridge exit gate of gthe park we were at the border between South africa and Mozambique. It took nearly an hour to complete all the paperwork and get an entry visa for Mozambique but then we enjoyed the short 90 minute drive to Maputo. |
