Welcome to Faro
Faro is a small town in the central Yukon, Canada, and home to
one of the largest open pit lead–zinc mine in the world as
well as a significant producer of silver and other natural resource
ventures.
Faro was named after the card game. Faro is a four hour drive from
Yukon’s capital, Whitehorse, and five hours away from Watson
Lake in Yukon’s south eastern corner.
The main attraction to this town is the Northern Lights which is
on the 100th percentile viewing line for them. The area where Faro
now lies was first documented in the early 1840's.
There was three people who played a major role in those early explorations,
namely Robert Campbell, George Dawson and Charles Sheldon.
An unique feature about the town of Faro is that it has a golf
course running through the main part of town, and residents are
also treated to frequent sightings of wildlife. When in Faro be
sure not to miss out on the 8th Annual Crane & Sheep Viewing
Festival during the month of May.
