The Desert Horse Inn is situated on Klein Aus Vista Nature Reserve,
2km from the small town of Aus, in southern Namibia. The lodge is
situated on a 10 hectare farm that borders on the Sperrgebiet (forbidden
diamond mining area). Where the Aus mountain escarpments meets desert plains and dunes,
encounter the ultimate hiking experience, horse trails and guided
Desert Horse viewing excursions. |

ACCOMMODATION
The Desert Horse Inn has 4 individual farmhouse rooms which are old and
part of the original farmhouse building. These bedrooms all share an outside
sitting area, in front of the rooms, with lots of shade provided by a
large tree.
Each bedroom also has its own outside entrance. In addition to these 4
individual rooms, it has a further 20 standard rooms in slightly more
modern and newer chalets. The rooms are spacious with en-suite bathrooms
and each room has a fan, fridge, tea / coffee making facilities, a safe
and mosquito nets.
FACILITES
Private Lounge: Here guests can relax by reading a book or relax in the
peaceful area with a smoked glass door which can be closed. The lounge
has comfortable sofas and arm chairs, with old fashioned luggage serving
as coffee tables.
Bar Area: The bar is well stocked with a choice of spirits, local beer,
wines and various other beverages.
Curio Shop: Here guests can buy African crafts made and sold by the local
people in Aus.
Upstairs Deck: From here guests can see miles away as they relax in wooden
chairs set around tables. The deck is raised above surrounding treetops.
Laundry Services: These are provided at an extra charge.
A La Carte Restaurant: We serve breakfast buffet-style with a wide selection
of fresh fruit, home-made juices, fresh-baked breads and muffins. Lunch
meals consist of an a la carte menu with a choice of light snacks such
as sandwiches and cold salads. Dinner meals usually consist of 3 courses
served buffet style. There is also a selection of local and South African
wines to enjoy with your meal.
Fireplace: Guests can enjoy their meals in front of a fireplace on cold
nights.
ACTIVITIES
Wild Horses : The realm of the Wild Horses is in Namib Naukluft Park,
north of the road to Lüderitz. With a little luck they can be watched
at Garub, some 20 km west of Aus, as they regularly make their way to
the drinking trough there. Klein Aus Vista holds special permits for excursions
into the areas where these horses can be found
Scenic Drives: Experience the fascinating plant and animal world of the
Succulent Karoo on a scenic drive through Gondwana Sperrgebiet Rand Park.
Hiking Trails: Explore the diverse plant and animal world of the Nama
Karoo and Succulent Karoo at your own pace. 5 hiking trails (2 to 5 hours)
take you through the wild, romantic landscapes of the Aus Mountains
Aus Info Centre: At the Aus Info Centre, on the way into Aus (3 km), the
attractions of the area - like the Wild Horses or the ruins of a POW camp
from World War I - are depicted on numerous display boards. Guests can
learn more while enjoying a cup of coffee.
Dunes: These can be explored at Koichab
The nearby Camel Thorn Forest
The Rock Art at Kirchberg Mountain.
DIRECTIONS
Klein Aus Vista is situated just south of the B4 road which links Keetmanshoop
with Luderitz; the turn off to the lodge is 2km west of the small town
of Aus and we are accessible by self-drive or fly-and-transfer.
