Wind Energy Institute of Canada (WEICan)
At North Cape, WEICan, a joint initiative of the federal and provincial
governments, has been involved in the development and testing of wind
energy systems for more than 25 years. A number of wind turbines can be
viewed operating at the site as they convert the energy contained in moving
wind, into electricity and feed it into the local electrical grid.
This wind generated electricity helps reduce the amount of electricity
generated from fossil fuels but the primary function of WEICan is to conduct
research and development (R&D) in wind energy technology. Typically,
WEICan has a number of R&D and testing projects, each investigating
different aspects of technology underway. Information on activities at
WEICan, and on wind energy in general, is available at the North Cape
Interpretative Centre.
