Welcome to VictoriaVictoria is a like jewel set on the shores of the warm Northumberland
Strait and home to an excellent summer theater festival. In recent
decades the community has branded itself as "Victoria-by-the-Sea"
to honour its heritage as a seaport and to attract tourists. Victoria
was founded in 1819 by James Bardin Palmer tucked away on the south
shore of the Island of Queens County, halfway between Charlottetown
and Summerside. The entire village still fits neatly in the four
blocks laid out when the town was formed in 1819 by his son Donald
Palmer, following a well-conceived plan, laid out the village on
Palmer’s estate. Be sure to make a stop at the Lighthouse
museum that has an interesting exhibit on the local history. Victoria
is accessible via the Trans-Canada Highway which runs from Borden
to Charlottetown. |
