Victoria Falls
Mosi-oa-tunya 'the smoke that thunders'
The Victoria Falls is one of the seven natural wonders of the
world, situated in the middle of Africa forming a natural border
between Zambia and Zimbabwe.
Known by the locals as 'Mosi oa tunya' which means the smoke that thunders
after the large plume of spray that rises high into the air over the Victoria
Falls as the Mighty Zambezi River plunges over the edge down over 100
meters into the giant gorge below.
It is easy to spend the whole day walking along the footpaths soaking
up this fantastic spectacle of nature or swimming on the edge of the Falls
(in dry season we hasten to add) and then go back the next day for more.
The Victoria Falls is more than impressive…
Given its name 'Victoria' falls by the famous explorer
Dr David Livingstone in honour of the then monarch of England Queen Victoria,
David Livingstone was the first person to make records
and draw sketches of this amazing wonder in what was then deepest darkest
Africa.
