From Zanzibar International Airport you will be welcomed by our driver who will take you for a one hour scenic drive to Unguja Diving & Resort.

From the exotic Stone Town with its fascinating labyrinth of narrow streets, to palm-fringed beaches and pristine coral reefs, the archipelago is a complete changes of pace from the mainland.

Many indigenous animals find their home in the beautiful Unguja Resort garden with old mango and baobab trees . The rare Red Colobus monkeys often come and play. A nature trail takes you from the Unguja Resort to the white sand beach.

Unguja Resort Accommodation

There are ten spacious private bungalows at Unguja Resort. From your ocean view terrace you can watch the local fishermen sailing the Indian Ocean. A breathtaking sunrise and sunset is yours. All Unguja bungalows are beautifully decorated in Zanzibar style.

In the middle of the Unguja tropical garden, a large specially conditioned swimming pool is situated. You can relax at the pool while enjoying the services from the Unguja bar and restaurant. For "scuba divers to be", the pool is the start of their adventure.

After scuba diving or snorkeling, watching dolphins or after a relaxing day on the beach you can retreat in the Unguja bar area overlooking the ocean and enjoy an excellent cocktail made with fresh fruit.

The restaurant at Unguja serves an excellent breakfast, lunch and dinner. The chef makes use of many local Zanzibar ingredients such as fresh seafood and exotic spices.

A private barbeque lunch on one of the small deserted islands near the southern coast of Zanzibar can be organized for you.

Scuba Diving at Unguja Resort

Zanzibar's first PADI 5-star dive centre One Ocean operates the diving and snorkeling activities for Unguja Resort. Whether you are an experienced diver or a novice, the instructors give you the opportunity to discover the stunning undersea world of the Indian Ocean in a way suiting your personal wishes.

At the house reef in front of Unguja Resort you can enjoy beautiful coral, a diversity of tropical fish and other spectacular sea-life. A traditional dhow can take you to more remote locations. There you meet the big ones such as reef sharks, barracudas and sometimes even a whale shark. From September until December humpback whales are often seen.

For real adventure divers One Ocean organize exploration dives: they go out to look for the untouched parts of the Indian Ocean using GPS and echo sounder.

One Ocean also offers you a broad range of dive courses. Their professional and experienced instructors are all PADI certified and speak several languages. Of course you will dive with modern, well maintained, high quality equipment.

Snorkeling & Dhow Safaris frim Unguja Resort

Snorkeling Safaris - A traditional dhow takes you to the most beautiful parts of the protected Menai Bay. After snorkeling we can organize a barbeque lunch for you on the beach of a deserted island not far from the Kizimkazi coast.

Dolphin Encounters - Kizimkazi is well known for the many dolphins which inhabit the area. With a dhow One Ocean takes you out and find them. Although they are wild animals they swim close to the boat for you to watch and enjoy.

Exploring Zanzibar

Unguja Resort will gladly organize visits to all of the interesting places on Zanzibar for you. Additionally to the well known places of interest such as Jozani Forest Reserve, Stonetown, spice farms and Prison Island, we can arrange to guide you to many less known places as well. You will be under the professional care of a local guide selected to suit your itinerary. A tour through the local village of Kizimkazi guided by one of the villagers is offered too.

Zanzibar Town on the west coast of the island is the most important settlement. The oldest part is known as Stone Town and is a World Heritage Site. All through history Zanzibar has been an important centre with trade links to the Far East, Arabia, African mainland and later Europe. This history is clearly reflected in the people and culture you will meet.

Fishing and agriculture are the main economic activities on Zanzibar. Cloves is still an important export product but tourism becomes more important every year. The government of Zanzibar is well aware of the special atmosphere of Zanzibar. It promotes environmental and cultural responsible tourism.
